Perfect for your first wreck dive. The Rath Connla, a fishing trawler that sank at moorings in 2007, sits intact at just 16 metres in the calm, current-free waters of Killary Harbour. A mooring buoy attached to her bow makes the wreck easy to find. Anemones, scallops, tube worms, and whelks have colonised every surface -- a microcosm of the rich invertebrate life found throughout Ireland's only fjord. Shore-accessible from Rosroe Pier, about 200 metres northeast, this is an ideal training wreck for newly qualified divers. The sheltered setting provides minimal current and calm conditions year-round. Combine with a boat dive on the nearby Julia T for a rewarding full day of diving.
