Iron steamship · 1890–1894 · Dumfries and Galloway, United Kingdom

The Prince

Nine of her crew walked ashore over the rocks at South Cairn once the tide had fallen; two others did not survive the attempt to reach land. The Prince, an iron vessel built at Paisley by J Fullerton in 1890 for John Hay and Co Ltd of Glasgow, was running in ballast from Sligo towards North Wales when a severe storm struck Scotland, wrecking or damaging dozens of ships along its coast.

No longer answering her helm, she was carried onto the shore below Corsewall Lighthouse and left high on the rocks, which is what let most of her crew get clear. Her triple expansion engine came from Muir and Houston of Glasgow. The wreck was afterwards sold at auction and broken up where she lay.
